One night, Joann and I shared a young and anxious patient. Although I had indirect care with the patient as a monitor tech, Joann managed the frontlines gracefully and truly exemplified what it means to be an Extraordinary Nurse.

The patient we had, as anxious as they were, had plenty of questions, and an abundant number of concerns, and always doubted the care they were being given.

They would not follow her nursing advice, would not take their medication, and were at high risk for elopement. Against all the difficulty of caring for this patient, Joann truly shined. She was consistently patient, and very accommodating, and even when the patient questioned the staff, Joann only had high praise for her coworkers, stating that she would trust her coworkers with her life.

Joann’s ability to put the patient’s mind at ease was truly outstanding/masterful, and I was glad to have witnessed an amazing nurse at work.

6S and VMC are truly blessed to have Joann as a nurse, and she deserves all the kudos in the world. I applaud you, Joann! Never stop being who you are!
