I first met Joann while visiting my Grandma who was hospitalized after having a stroke. She took amazing care of her. Grandma was having a hard time communicating but Joann was patient and kind, she was encouraging and compassionate. She made my Grandma feel at ease, which aided in her healing. My Grandma went from barely walking and not communicating to walking laps around the unit and conversing with family. When Grandma was being sent to the rehab unit, Joann sought the nurse who was going to be caring for her, brought her to the room, and introduced her to Grandma. Grandma was able to go home after rehab, but unfortunately had another stroke after discharge. She was admitted again to Carew Med Surg, however we did not get Joann as our nurse, but that didn't stop her from coming to Grandma's aid when the pain was so severe she was breaking down in tears. Grandma was walking in the hall, broke down into tears from the pain, Joann saw from where she was sitting, and came to Grandma's aid. Joann called the doctor assigned to Grandma, got an order for pain medication, and got Grandma some relief. I was so thankful Joann was so willing to help. She is not just an amazing nurse, but an amazing person.
