It is with immense honor that I write this letter to recommend Joann for the DAISY Award. Joann has always been a proactive leader in the hospital and throughout this past year has really become a strong leader as she is a long-standing Assistant Director of Nursing. She provides administration and education as needed along with a listening ear, comfort, and positive support.
She is an outstanding leader with a rich background in patient care, management, and hospital administration. She is a dynamic individual who possesses highly admirable characteristics of what constitutes an excellent nurse leader. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was available 24/7 and was able to support the ICU staff as she devoted her time floating into the unit and directly cared for COVID-19 patients. She also made her time available as a reliever in the In-Patient wards when staffing was scarce and patient flow was overwhelming.
Joann possesses exceptional intellectual ability and maturity that allows her to make critical decisions for administrative, clinical, and operational issues. She was also active in terms of quality improvement and patient safety and actively communicated to Corporate Quality and Nursing seeking expert advice and clarification for any hospital care dilemmas and concerns. She has earned great respect for her impeccable technical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Her passion, ability to motivate others and commitment to high-quality patient care is awe-inspiring.
She demonstrates nursing leadership by supporting nurses to be more assertive in providing excellent clinical care. She is a role model for staff nurses as well as other hospital leaders. She is a thoughtful voice for change and has a discerning ear for ideas that warrant further investigation. She embodies a can-do attitude.
