We came to the ER on a holiday weekend, my dad having a swollen thumb which turned out to be an infection requiring admittance to the hospital, which he and I didn't expect. After hours of tests, we were exhausted, and my dad, in mid-stage Alzheimer's was a bit confused as to what was happening - that he needed IV antibiotics. Joann created a soothing, calm atmosphere of order and was extremely patient with dad during her intake period. She was warm and yet clearly paying close attention to procedures, setting up the antibiotic IV and getting dad comfortable for the night. We both were so soothed by her balance of welcoming bedside manner and efficiency, so rare and special!
I have never written one of these, but Joann's excellent bedside manner and organized care were so effective, and I firmly believe it was the initial foundation of our visit hat made our first hospital stay at Martha Jefferson such a wonderful experience.
She is extraordinary!
