Joanna was very intuitive and understood Mom's personality well enough to see what wasn't normal.
Last July my mom was taken to Edward Hospital by ambulance after being found on the bathroom floor of her apartment. She spent several days in the hospital. She had more than one nurse but Joanna was incredible. I was very concerned about Mom and Joanna was very helpful.

At one point, Mom thought she was dying and was saying her goodbyes. It was gut-wrenching. I was vaguely aware of Joanna standing by the window. She quietly gave me comfort if only in her facial expression. She gave us privacy while still being present. As it turned out Mom had mistakenly thought poison had been put in her IV but it was a medication that started with 'P'. It was a huge relief an hour later when Mom told me what she'd thought. That exhausted me and Joanna was right there to boost me up.

Later Mom got sicker with a blocked esophagus, pulmonary embolisms, etc. and I was told I needed to make hard decisions. And there was Joanna willing to talk it out with me. (I am 60 and have quite a bit of medical knowledge and understanding and it's just me and Mom.) My mom is my best friend and I do as much as I can for her. I was incredibly relieved that Joanna was working 5 or 6 days straight. She took great care of Mom medically and respected her privacy, and her dignity. Joanna was very intuitive and understood Mom's personality well enough to see what wasn't normal. When I did leave Mom if Joanna was there I didn't worry so much. Joanna did an excellent job of keeping me informed and updated.

I can't say enough about what Joanna meant to us. Mom is still living. A few times she's been back in the hospital (she's 88 now) and I've seen Joanna. Unfortunately, we haven't been lucky enough to have her as a nurse again. Other nurses have commented on liking working with Joanna and that she's their "go-to" fellow nurse. If/when Mom's in Edward again I pray Joanna is her nurse!
