Joanna took care of my baby but she also saw the importance of taking care of ME as the mother.
Because I am a nurse, I am very involved in my daughter's care when she's admitted to 4 Weaver (mess, blood glucose checks, insulin injections, linen changes/CHG wipes, etc.). When Joanna came on for the night shift one evening... she crouched down near me (but not toooo close! Haha) and said "Mom... you need to get some sleep tonight. Let's make a plan for tonight. We will cluster care. What will she let ME do? What are you comfortable with ME doing? Because you can NOT do it all. You are exhausted. We are here to help you in any way we can". I nearly sobbed in relief. It was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment. That night, I slept the best I ever have in the hospital, knowing she was caring for my baby with love and skill, which put me so at ease and allowed me the rest I desperately needed and rarely allow myself. She took care of my baby but she also saw the importance of taking care of ME as the mother. It was a kindness I will never forget!
Joanna, you are an extraordinary nurse and an inspiration to us all! Congratulations, you make us proud!
