Joanna inspires loyalty because she leads by example; a do as I do, not just what I say personality. She will be the first to help any of her employees, no matter the issue (work or personal). There have been many occasions when the OB unit was so busy that we needed extra hands, and Joanna put on greens and tasked for the nurses. From inserting Foleys and IVs to getting patients out of bed or assisting with breastfeeding, she still knows how to be a great nurse, even if she's not great charting it anymore (according to her!). Joanna has also come to our rescue several times when a baby needed an IV and no one could get it started. She still has her NICU skills too.
She continuously advocates for each of her units to get the updates and equipment to make it better for patients and for staff. She is encouraging of all staff to continue education and supportive of goals and plans. Joanna understands the importance and value of teamwork.
A Division Director said, "When I round with the directors on a monthly basis, I always ask them for a couple of team members who have gone above and beyond who I can personally recognize. In my last meeting with Joanna, she asked that I recognize all of you for the resilience you have shown not just in the past year, but in the last few years. With Joanna's leadership and your (staff) commitment to caring for our community, we will no doubt be successful in 2019."
