Let me start by saying that all nurses and those working in the care sector are wonderful, but today, we had the privilege of meeting a truly magnificent nurse named Jo. From the moment she interacted with my dad, my mum, and me, she immediately put us at ease. It was clear that she genuinely cared and was deeply interested in our situation. My dad has a lot going on, and we were feeling confused, anxious, and desperate for answers. Jo didn't just listen to us; she took action. She took the time to understand our concerns and didn’t try to fob us off. Her communication skills were fantastic. She checked in with us regularly, and when she realised that we still hadn’t received all the answers we needed, she promised to arrange for someone to explain things further. And she did just that. What I particularly appreciated was that Jo didn’t simply hand us over when the consultant spoke to us; she accompanied us throughout the consultation. We felt truly heard and understood, and that my dad and we were important to her. We left the meeting with a level of understanding that I don't think we would have achieved without Jo's tenacity and empathy.
