I am a friend and cultural navigator for a Sudanese family whose toddler was hospitalized for surgery. Joanne provided compassionate, understanding, and excellent nursing care during their visit. Joanne was sensitive to the family’s hospital experience and made sure the family understood all aspects of the care their child received. She provided safety and comfort for the family and came in frequently to make sure everyone had what they needed. Joanne was courteous, patient, made eye contact, verified information, treated the patient gently and lovingly, and always followed through quickly. She taught the family how to use the equipment they would need at home with patience, careful demonstration, humor, and positive reinforcement. Joanne made sure both parents were comfortable with the care they would need to provide for their child. This child has had numerous hospitalizations elsewhere and has never received such excellent, thorough, and compassionate nursing care.
