Recently, when it was time to give birth to my son, my first child, I was very excited until some nurse and doctor told me they could not find my baby's heartbeat. I was, and till this day and forever, shocked and heartbroken on why life itself had to take my baby away from me. I don't know why it had to happen the way it did. My nightmare had begun and I don't wish it on anyone.
When Joanne came into the delivery room and I saw her for the first time, I didn't think anything. But when she spoke to me, she made me feel comfortable. She did anything to help take the pain away, making sure I was comfortable for a smooth delivery. She would come to my room every 30 minutes making sure I was okay. We would have conversations, starting our "clumsy club" where she, I and others would be clumsy by accidentally drop drinks and things. We would laugh about it. After my delivery, my heart felt empty, seeing my baby boy peacefully sleep. The next day Joanne was there for me, creating a safe zone and making me smile.
The reason I want Joanne to receive The DAISY Award is that she is the most caring person I have ever met. She was by my side through the ups and downs and took the time to get to know me really well. She is like a mother figure to me. You can tell she is very passionate about her job. She even helped me pick out an angel outfit for my baby boy. She made sure my pain went away and reminded me that this was not my fault. Joanne was also there when my baby was baptized in the hospital chapel. She met my family and they all loved her. I thank her for keeping my dad and me at peace. That is what I call a true nurse. Joanne is my angel.
