February 2018 Honoree
jocelyn miller, BSN, RN
Jocelyn recognized a newborn with a bowel obstruction that was undiagnosed by previous nurses and residents. She saved the newborn from losing its bowel. The newborn was vomiting on night shift. Jocelyn went through the laundry to determine the green bile. Jocelyn notified the physician of her observation. Special care nursery came over and placed a nasogastric tube down and by then the newborn was vomiting up blood-tinged fluid. The newborn was immediately transported to Akron Children's Hospital. The physician called Jocelyn the next day and said if it was an hour later the newborn would have lost its bowel. Jocelyn's assessment skills are exceptional!
Thank you, Jocelyn, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
