From the start, Jocelyn presented with a kind and caring demeanor. She let me know she was there for me and made sure I was as comfortable as I could be.
I have been in hospitals, mainly as an outpatient, starting at age 8. However, this was my first time going to BIDMC through the emergency department. I had been seen at two other hospital ERs that week and both had sent me home. That day I was in awful pain and felt scared, not sure what was going on with my body. My time in the BIDMC ER was stressful as they ran tests, drew blood, and gave meds, none of which helped my pain. When I was finally admitted upstairs, I was exhausted and nervous about what was happening. However, when I first arrived, I was met by my nurse, Jocelyn. From the start, Jocelyn presented with a kind and caring demeanor. She let me know she was there for me and made sure I was as comfortable as I could be. She checked on me often and was there for when things really took a turn (for the worse). Though she is a newer nurse, she has the skills and competency of a seasoned nurse. She made me feel heard and never made me feel like I was a bother to anyone. She knew when to escalate an issue (triggers) and was by my side, reassuring me that everything would be ok. She even went above and beyond while she continued to check on me each day she worked, even when she wasn't my nurse that day. I am grateful for the care and compassion she showed and I feel that she is more than deserving of the DAISY Award. From all of my time being in hospitals and outpatient care, I have never had someone show so much compassion, kindness, and understanding, you can tell she truly loves helping people. I believe she will continue to be an excellent bedside nurse and mentor to those around her by showing exemplary nursing skills with the empathy that is so important to a patient.
