While the fighting back wore on all of us, mostly me, Jocelyne appeared to be the daughter-whisperer.
My daughter was admitted to the PICU and while every staff member and physician provided amazing, compassionate care, Jocelyne stood out to us. My daughter is extremely strong-willed—add being sick and tired to that—and I’m sure you can imagine she wasn’t the most pleasant patient. She fought and screamed when anything had to be done related to her IV, when she had to meds that didn’t taste good, and so forth.

While the fighting back wore on all of us, mostly me, Jocelyne appeared to be the daughter-whisperer. Her patience and calm demeanor appealed to my daughter making her more amenable to complying with what needed to be done (taking meds, keeping her oxygen mask on, etc.) When Jocelyne was on shift, my daughter seemed more at ease. She took her medications without a fight and did what needed to be done.

Getting my daughter to drink more fluids in hopes of coming off the IV was one of the bigger challenges. Jocelyne saw that my daughter loves Doritos so in an attempt to encourage her to drink fluids, she wrote a cute message on her water cup “a sip for every chip” turning her hydration into a fun challenge. After all the tricks we tried, this seemed to work.   That’s just one of the ways Jocelyne made our stay memorable. We appreciate her kindness and patience, and we will keep this cup forever as a reminder of her kindness, and the overall importance of staying hydrated! Thank you, Jocelyne!
