Great advocates are often the most knowledgeable ones on the unit and always ready to share their knowledge and expertise to educate others.
I have known Jodi for over 20 years, and we have worked together for all of them. Jodi is the best patient advocate that I have ever seen. She does not do her work for a pat on the back, but for the quiet satisfaction of helping others and doing what she believes is the best, right, and only thing to do. Sometimes, she is the first to arrive at work and the very last to leave, ensuring that her patients are safe and well cared for, showing reverence to her peers, and staying to help when there is so much going on still to be done. Jodi has inspired her peers, especially the newer nurses on PCU. They have taken notice and admire and respect her for her excellent assessment skills, experience, and intuition. A few weeks ago, Jodi took care of a patient who suddenly took a turn for the worse. Jodi used her assessment skills and was concerned that the patient had an acute abdomen. When Jodi did not receive the response that she needed, she quickly called a Rapid Response. The Resident team arrived, and Jodi explained what she had assessed. The Resident agreed and called GI to see the patient. The patient, in fact, had an acute abdomen and was rushed to the OR within an hour. Jodi saved his life. I am so proud to be her friend, co-worker, and Manager. I cannot think of a more wonderful nurse than Jodi to receive a DAISY Award.
