Jodie held my little boy and gave him his first feed in the first hours when I couldn’t hold him.
I went in to be induced and unfortunately, my pregnancy was high-risk due to medical conditions, and I previously had an emergency C-section 6 years ago with my firstborn. We chose to go natural. However, my waters broke at 2 am and the contractions were strong at roughly 7 am I was able to go down to the delivery suite where I was greeted by a lovely lady named Jodie and a student midwife; they made me feel more relaxed. Unfortunately, Jodie noticed I was starting to lose a lot of blood with every contraction I was having, so a team of consultants was there, too. It became apparent that my son had started getting stuck, so we spoke about going into surgery to deliver him by forceps.

Once there it became apparent I was bleeding too much, and my body was now exhausted from being in labor for 20 hours. So the team decided an emergency C-section would now be my only option. Unfortunately, my partner was unable to be there as he was looking after my first born and my labor partner was called into work that morning, so I had no one to support me through it. Jodie and the team of consultants were absolutely amazing, supported me, and sat with me through it all I was in surgery for 4 hours as after my boy arrived I was still bleeding out and ended up having an emergency blood transfusion. Jodie held my little boy and gave him his first feed in the first hours when I couldn’t hold him. Although it was a horrible experience and to go through alone with no one I knew, I was made to feel relaxed as if I knew her for years; I will forever be grateful to her and the whole team who not only delivered my son but for potentially saving my life. Thank you all.
