I am currently a patient as well as a staff member on 3 West. Jodie was my nurse. She made a difficult situation better by adding humor when I came to 3 West. She got more pain medicine when she knew when I was in pain. I was embarrassed to have to use a bedpan but she lightened my mood and helped me. Also, she is my friend and co-worker. I have witnessed the care and compassion she gives her patients. She recently cared for a deaf person who admitted she didn't feel safe at home. Jodie reassured the patient and arranged for a sign language interpreter to be on the unit when the social worker would be present to talk to her. She is willing to drop everything to help a co-worker and is an excellent preceptor.
