Jody should be recognized for her extraordinary care and compassion for a COVID-19 patient in the ICU. Jody was told that she was going to be floated to Swann 3 South (COVID ICU). She fearfully went and promised to do her best. Jody did just that! During her shift, she cared for an intubated COVID patient. She was given High Fives by two different managers that day. One manager stated, "You care from the heart and it shows during your shifts. You prayed with your patient and reached him on a spiritual level at a time that he needed it most." While the patient was intubated, Jody prayed with him. The next day, she found out that he was a pastor. Another manager stated that Jody's helpfulness and assistance was beneficial during a bedside swallow evaluation and aided in the patient's outcome. She stated, "Thank you for your hard work, strength, and courage when dealing with a COVID + patient." After her shift, Jody called her manager and tearfully asked if she could go back to the COVID Unit to care for this patient again. Jody stated, "We extubated my patient today and I would like to see him make it through. He is GOING to make it through!" The doctor came through the ICU the next day and stated to the team that because of Jody's hard work, persistence, and care, this patient was extubated early and was able to transfer out of the ICU. Because of Jody's teamwork, clinical skills and being there for a patient when no family was allowed, she IS a DAISY Nurse!
