She provides patients with not only the clinical care they need on a day-to-day basis, but also shows the compassion and understanding necessary for Emergency Department patients.
Yesterday I had a critical patient arrive via squad for seizures. When I came back to my room, after grabbing the seizure pads, Jody was already attending to the patient by performing an EKG and hooking them up to the patient's monitor with her nursing student. Later on, this patient experienced another episode of seizure-like activity while I was present in the room. Jody IMMEDIATELY came to the room along with a physician to provide ancillary nursing support. She assisted with helping me keep the patient safe, while at the same time giving the patient and his wife reassurance and comfort. She and I worked together to give the patient the immediate care he needed.
She is always there to provide help no matter what circumstance is presented. This is only ONE of MANY, and COUNTLESS times Jody has shown an extraordinary work ethic. She demonstrates teamwork and raises the bar for nursing camaraderie. She provides patients with not only the clinical care they need on a day-to-day basis, but also shows the compassion and understanding necessary for Emergency Department patients.
Jody has a broad knowledge base that Emergency Nursing demands, however; she also has a strong Labor & Delivery skillset. She is one of the most intelligent RNs I believe our department is lucky enough to have part of our team. She trained me as a novice nurse in the ED and I have learned so much from her over the years, and that continues to this day while being a part of Medina ED team. I will always look up to Jody as a mentor because she will always take the time to give detailed explanations, her leadership, and her ability to professionally motivate others.
Jody has always and continues to serve our mission here at the Cleveland Clinic which is caring for patients' lives, and educating those she serves, for example, other nurses like myself. Jody's work ethic single-handedly upholds the Cleveland Clinics' vision of making our ER one of the best places for care, but also one of the best places to work in healthcare. She truly puts patients first, ensuring she cares for them as her own family. She always speaks to other co-workers and peers with respect, patience & understanding, again as if they were too family. Our community of Medina is fortunate to have nurses like Jody Thomas employed at the Cleveland Clinic, and this organization is also blessed to call her a part of our team.
I would like to formally nominate Jody for the Daisy Award based on the heartfelt appreciation I have for her as a person, the fact that she is an EXCEPTIONAL nurse, and the impact she makes on the lives of patients and coworkers. On top of that, she has a personality that is beloved by all. She is a pleasure to work with, always kind with a positive outlook, & has a sense of humor to keep the mood pleasant. I wholeheartedly believe Jody is a true DAISY Nurse.
