Ms. P made the difficult decision to receive Hospice care after getting a poor prognosis. Joe spent hours with her, holding her hand, discussing their faith, and helping her to move towards acceptance of the end of her life. The whole family has come to love and respect Joe and has welcomed him as part of their family. Joe even came in on his day off to visit with P and when we commented on it, he said, "She really made an impact on me. Her story has inspired me." After Joe went home that night P was so moved by his kindness that she was almost in tears. She said, "He is so special! There are no words to describe that man! He was sent here by God for a special reason and he's living it!' She went on to say that although she's only known Joe a short time, she loves him like family and said, "I just want to hold him in my arms!" For P, knowing that Joe was there to answer her questions about dying and sit with her when she was afraid, meant the world. Joe even has plans to visit P after she's discharged to Hospice House. The connection between these two is so pure and absolutely palpable!
