Nomination from patient

I was an outpatient and Joe Merriman was my nurse to get me prepared for surgery. He was very nice and personable. He made me feel very comfortable about what was going on and what was going to be taking place. He didn't make me feel like it was his job. He made me feel like I, as a patient mattered, like I was someone who was important. Joe was extremely thorough and informative about everything he was doing. I was made to feel like we'd been friends for a long time and that I was going to be taken care of with the utmost respect and thoughtfulness. Joe is a very positive individual and that showed thru while doing his job. I believe he deserves this award for enjoying his job and presenting himself in a way that makes Mammoth Hospital look very professional and caring. Joe definitely models of your CARES philosophy!

Nomination from patient's husband

My wife and I would like to commend one of your nursing staff, Joe Merriman, for his outstanding service. My wife was admitted to your facility for a surgical procedure in September. Joe was her nurse for her entire stay in your hospital. We can't say enough good things about him. He greeted us with a friendly smile and took us into the "pre-op" room explaining what was to follow with her procedure. Just by his demeanor he made us (especially my wife) feel quite comfortable. He explained that I could stay with my wife up till the time she was taken in for surgery. As you know, surgery and being in the hospital itself, tends to be a little nerve wracking, or cause you to be a little anxious. Joe proceeded to explain everything as he was getting her ready for the surgery. He asked questions about her medical history and medications she was taking. I'm sure that is just standard procedure for nurses. However, Joe made great conversation and kept making sure my wife was comfortable. He should get an A+ for his communications skills. He was just great with his attention to us and especially my wife. If I was teaching a class on how to be a good nurse I would use Joe as a perfect example. He was multitasking as he was dealing with us, checking records, her vital signs, using the computer and interacting with the other staff members in the room. I would go on and on about how he took care of both of us especially my wife.

I must tell you that Joe was great and made our trip to Mammoth Hospital a great experience (I can't believe I just said that). We talked about it on our drive home.
