My Dad, was admitted to UNMC neurology due to several strokes that he had. When we first met Joe, he told us about Dad and let us know how he was doing. He did so in a way that was very straight forward, and in layman's terms. Every time we had a question about Dad, Joe would either find out the information, or find out who knew the information and would get back to us. He would not only ask how Dad was feeling, but would reach out to me and my family to make sure we were doing ok. He showed the compassion that was required at the time. He told us about the agitation that Dad would experience around midnight, and helped us put the puzzle together. He was there to inform us of the seizure that Dad had and was there to help restrain him. He understands what is needed by the patient, and how to address the family members. Joe was able to wish us well as Dad was discharged, and told us that he hoped not to see us back. Little did we know that we would be back soon.
A week later, Dad was admitted back to UNMC, as he was very confused. Dr. G wanted them to run a CT scan. When Dad was admitted to the hospital on the 6th floor, Joe was our nurse again. It's really nice to see a nurse who was familiar with Dad's case, and so willing to step-in again. Once again, Joe took an active role in Dad's care. He was yelled at by Dad, and had to restrain him, but he kept on giving him the care that he needed. Anytime I would call, he would also provide me an update and let me know Dad's temperament.
I don't think we could have got through this without Joe. He was always there with a smile, and the comfort that was needed. Thanks Joe!
