There was a patient who was brought into the ED from a facility for the treatment of a critical limb. Upon arrival, it was discovered that this patient had no means of communication with our staff as his hearing aid battery was dead. The nurse treating this patient did everything they could to try and alleviate the problem but was unsuccessful. Joel heard about the issue and stepped in to help. Joel had just purchased hearing aid batteries that morning for himself and offered to check to see if those batteries would also fit the patient’s hearing aid. They did! The patient was then able to hear clearly and understand the plan of care for his stay. Joel truly went above and beyond and does so every day. We are lucky to have him!
