I have the pleasure of working weekends with Joel, and this nomination comes not from a single event, but from a dedicated consistency and reliability that shows that Joel has exceptional character, not just a shining moment.
Whenever a patient is being difficult or escalating in behavior, Joel is always right there before you need to call. His demeanor with patients is so calming that he has been able to make even the most combative patient agreeable. I admire the ease with which he navigates difficult patients and the peace he's able to offer them.
But more than anything, I am grateful to be able to count on Joel being the first person in the room to help in times that can be stressful, uncertain, or even scary. I know I speak for multiple people when I say that I can think of several shifts where I have felt safer because Joel was there.
