Joel took care of a patient in the Downtown Emergency Department who created a TikTok to say thank you to him in hopes that he would see the message. The TikTok message reads:

" To the nurse at Bon Secours (St. Francis Downtown) in Greenville, SC, the one who discharged me from my 72-hour psych hold in 2023. When I told you I was homeless and didn't even have any shoes, you went and found me some old beat-up tennis shoes and a sweatshirt since it was cold outside. I could tell you wanted to do more for me, I could see the pain in your eyes. I just wanted to say thank you and I made it. I have my own home, a whole rack of shoes, and a family. All because you showed me humanity."

He shared pictures of his family and his rack of shoes on TikTok. Joel was living the mission of our organization by being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. He showed compassion for the patient and provided him with the basic items he needed for a safe discharge to the community. Joel made a difference in this patient’s life by doing one thing, truly caring and treating this patient with respect and dignity.
