Shortly after my arrival, Joel introduced himself as my nurse for the night, and little did I know that my experience was about to make a magnificent change. I was quite stressed by the recent diagnosis and associated events, which I expressed to Joel, who listened tentatively while showing empathy and genuine kindness. He exhibited great skill in meeting my complex emotional needs with unending compassion. He even offered to research topics & questions that I had asked him, as time would allow. With facing a procedure the next day, he was available and made me feel respected and cared for, providing me space & privacy for certain ADL activities. He even custom-fitted plastic sleeve-like barriers to enable me to shower safely while keeping my IV sites dry! I found it quite innovative, and they worked perfectly. Bravo Joel!! I have never before received such thoughtful kindness & support from a complete stranger. Joel R was such a blessing, he truly was My Guardian Angel!! I wholeheartedly nominate Joel R for The DAISY Award, for he is the epitome of all the characteristics that make up the “Perfect Nurse!” I will always remember the night that he walked into my life with a smile, leaving me with wonderful memories made during a particularly challenging time!
