As a fill in Clinical Care Coordinator, I am afforded the opportunity to witness first-hand all the wonderful care our staff provide to patients throughout the house. But I am nominating Jo'el for the DAISY Award because she exemplified every qualification on the list. On 3/14/14, she went above and beyond to show compassionate, loving care with an Angelic "healing touch" for a dying patient in the ICU.
This particular patient was not assigned to her that day. Jo'el had a very busy assignment and stayed over to complete tasks and charting. But the moment Jo'el heard that the patient had been made CMO, (comfort measures only) and the patient's family had all knowingly left the patient to die alone, without hesitation, she clocked out and went to sit with the patient, holding her hand and talking softly to her and praying for over 2 hours until the patient passed. What a nurse!
What a wonderful, loving, caring human being. What an honor it is to work with her and how thankful we are to have her representing NCH.
