It is an honor to nominate Joel, RN, for the prestigious DAISY Award! When my father was transferred to the VA Hospice unit, Joel was one of the first staff members that I met. I was very sad and nervous and was still trying to deal with the reality that my dad was now in hospice. Joel greeted me with a smile and assisted me in locating my father on the Hospice wing of the hospital. Over a period of time, I noticed that Joel, on a consistent basis, treated my father with genuine respect, dignity, professionalism, and kindness. This greatly assisted me with my nervousness and gave me the assurance that my father would be taken care of in a quality manner. Additionally, Joel presents these traits: professionalism, kindness, and respect to my family and I.

Having a loved one in Hospice can be an emotional roller coaster ride for both patients and their families. However, Joel's consistent demeanor greatly assisted us during this difficult time. Thank you so much Joel, for your dedicated and hard work that you are providing for my father and family on a daily basis, it is greatly appreciated!
