Joey remained extremely considerate throughout her busy shift. My husband was understandably distraught, and she took the time out of her busy schedule several times to counsel him with great attentiveness about his devastating diagnosis. Her straightforward yet caring manner was of great help to him in understanding and beginning to accept his diagnosis. Her kind and humble personality show in every aspect of her job. Many RNs might have ignored the details as “someone else’s job,” but when I ran into her in the hall headed for the coffee machine in a set of wrinkled day-old clothes, she asked me gently if I’d like a towel for my face. I was so grateful at that moment. She took me to supplies, found me toiletries and a gown to sleep in, and I cannot describe how cared for I felt as she helped me back to the room. They just saw the definition of “nursing.” Joey was absolutely outstanding.
