I have worked with Joey for many years. He is a jack of all trades and master of all. The best part about him is his down to earth attitude. Not only is he an excellent teacher (he teaches the ONS classes and has a tremendous ease in Oncology); he is also an active leader in the Oncology nursing society.
With EPIC, he took a big step up to the plate with taking on Beacon, where not only did he help build the program and have a thorough understanding but also taught nurses, pharmacists, and MDs as well. (He even went the extra mile and went to their offices). He did the same when we went live with EPIC. He is on the union board for nursing and is a tremendous asset as a mediator.
But one of the best parts about Joey is his involvement in patient care. Since he has such a nice rapport with all of his coworkers and physicians, he is able to use this to his advantage when it comes to patient care. He is a wonderful communicator which lends to better treatment for the patients as he is not shy in being their advocate. He is thorough, conscientious, patient, compassionate and thoughtful. Patients know and love him.
He always comes to work with a smile on his face and carries it with him throughout the day. He also exemplifies Providence Stewardship by riding his bike or walking to work almost every day. I feel Joey is worthy of this award as he is the epitome of everything a nurse should be.
