I wanted to take a moment to thank your hospital staff and particularly the staff on 6 Kaufman for the care of my father. My dad suffered acute delirium for several nights after having his broken hip surgically repaired. Specifically, I would like to note the very special impact your nurse Johanna Wellington had on our family. I am certain that she is nothing less than an angel sent from the heavens to care for those in your hospital. Her efforts caring for my father were nothing less than superhuman. She gave him time, understanding, professional care, and love for three nights in a row. She was kind, gentle, and simply wonderful with him despite his acute delirium. He suffered from visual hallucinations and sleep deprivation, making him uncooperative which made caring for him extremely difficult. His constant attempt to pull out IVs, catheters, and to get out of bed were very troubling for us and quite challenging for Johanna and all the nurses and staff, especially in the setting of a freshly repaired hip. I stayed with him one of the nights (I was only strong enough to be with him one night) she was caring for him so my observations of her care are first hand. The degree of caring, kindness, and patience Ms. Wellington exemplified during her care for him, in my mind, set the standard for how we should all be with our patients.
My family and I work in the health care field (I am a general surgeon, my brother is a trauma/critical care surgeon, my dad was a general surgeon, my wife is a nurse, my mother was a nurse) so we know what outstanding care looks like but in my opinion, Ms. Wellington sets the bar at a new level. To be honest, all the staff on the unit were wonderful with him, including the therapists, the wonderful ladies who brought him meals, the cleaning staff, the unit secretary, just everyone was fantastic. Our family feels blessed to have met such wonderful people.
In summary, you should be very proud of the staff on 6K, specifically, Johanna Wellington stood out for her outstanding efforts on my father's behalf. I will be forever in her debt and am in awe of her demonstration of clinical excellence and professionalism. May God Bless you and your staff. Thank you for caring for my father.
