Mom and I were so scared and heartbroken, but Mr. Bates took the time to be gentle and comforting with us.
We came into the emergency room with my 90-year-old father, who was gravely ill. My mom and I were in the midst of trying to decide on hospice care. Mr. John Bates was the nurse who was taking care of Dad. He was unbelievably compassionate with the three of us. Mom and I were so scared and heartbroken, but Mr. Bates took the time to be gentle and comforting with us. He even made fresh coffee for my 90-year-old mom. He would regularly come by and ask if we needed anything.
When it was time to move Dad to a hospital room, Mr. Bates personally pushed his bed to the hospital room. My Dad died the next day. Thankfully, he passed away peacefully. Mom and I believe Dad was reassured and calmed by Mr. Bates when he administered the small dose of Ativan to Dad. He never woke up after that, but his last thoughts were that he would be taken care of. Dad was not scared. This meant the world to us. We are forever grateful to Mr. Bates. We want to thank him from the bottom of our hearts. I hope he can see this letter.
