Words from John:
Hello, my name is Johnny Rogers. I am honored to be a part of the team at the Homeless Healthcare Center in Chattanooga, TN, where I serve as a primary care nurse practitioner for our unhoused population.
I started my career as an EMT working on the ambulance. From there, I worked for many years in the ER as an ER tech, RN, and eventually as an NP prior to landing at the Homeless Healthcare Center. Throughout my life and career, I’ve seen how God has prepared me to be able to care for the unhoused with empathy.
I have lost both a father and stepfather to drug overdose, witnessed my grandfather caring for the unhoused, and, as a child, experienced living with extended family due to lost housing. I am extremely grateful that my past is not just about me, but loving my neighbor with the kind of compassion and empathy that every patient deserves.
As a nurse and nurse practitioner, I am able to revive patients who overdose with life-saving Narcan, care for the unhoused, and help patients as they find housing, all to change the trajectory of not only their lives, but the lives of their families.
To me, there is no greater calling than to be a nurse. I am blessed that my vocation and personal ministry have aligned. Finally, I am honored to receive a DAISY Award and represent The DAISY Foundation’s celebration of this noble profession.
