My husband had a complicated case of colon and rectal cancer. After nearly a year of treatment which included 7 rounds of chemo infusion therapy, oral chemo, and 28 rounds of radiation, it was decided that surgery would be performed to remove the remaining cancer. As a result of his surgery, he received an ileostomy. We were told there was a huge learning curve involved in caring and maintaining his health following this surgery. While he was BLESSED to have an amazing surgeon and wonderful nurses and techs for which we are truly grateful, the Extraordinary Health care Hero that I wish to nominate is John Caruso. He was such an amazing expert in this field, and we are grateful for the exemplary care he gave. He was so knowledgeable and helpful. He was as 'down to earth' as could possibly be. He made us feel "heard" and "seen" during what was a very difficult time. He truly went above and beyond to explain things and teach us how to handle such care. He even provided us with his business card or cell phone number, assuring us that he would help in any way needed based on his schedule. It is my honor to nominate John for the AdventHealth DAISY Award. He is most deserving.
