He took the time to patiently answer my family's questions and explain what things meant on his monitors or what he was doing with my dad's care, while still consistently focusing on giving my dad excellent care.
My dad was admitted for a scheduled CABG. My parents were both very scared and anxious. My whole family came, and we were trying to keep my mom calm throughout. It was decided to keep my dad intubated overnight after the surgery to allow his heart more rest since extubating can be stressful.
When they tried the next morning, his BP was consistently low, so it was decided to take him back into surgery to check for bleeding. The doctors found and removed clots in his heart to get my dad stabilized. John Donley was his nurse when we all came the next morning when he was taken back to surgery. He was so calm and reassuring with our family. He took the time to patiently answer my family's questions and explain what things meant on his monitors or what he was doing with my dad's care, while still consistently focusing on giving my dad excellent care. It was extremely comforting and reassuring knowing he was in such good hands. He didn't just do his job as a nurse, he went above and beyond in a time of distress for our family that left us deeply reassured, in particular my mom.
