I was a patient for several days, receiving IV antibiotics, after a dog bite. I can’t recall one instance that impressed me more than another. John was an amazing caregiver from admission to discharge. His technical skills were excellent without exaggeration, John would stop by my room at least every 30 minutes to see if I need anything & assess my level of pain. On a Monday morning, he asked if I minded having a nursing student work with him. Of course, I didn’t. When the surgeon came to pack my wounds, I asked him if I could call the students in to observe. Later in the day, John came into my room to personally thank me for involving the students. I’ve been an RN for 40+ years. John was down to earth and willing to share some of his background with me. This made me feel accepted and not just a patient. Thanks, John.
