My mother was recently a patient at VCU for a brain aneurysm. When mom went in for surgery early that morning she said people were buzzing all around her prepping her for surgery. When she got to NSICU John was the first real "face" of the hospital - someone who would intimately interact with her and our family. Our mother is precious to us. We felt that from the care that she received from John, that she was just as dear to him. At one point I was going downstairs to get her a cup of coffee while John was in the room tending to mom and he said, "I'll get her a cup of coffee - no need to go buy one." He didn't have to offer that! I'm sure being in NSICU he has much more important things to do, but how kind of him to take the time to get my 86 year old mom coffee! His care for her was exemplary. The last several years with aging parents I have been at a hospital more than I would like and believe me, not all hospital employees are as thoughtful and caring. Even the lady that came into mom's room to get the trash passed some pleasant conversation with us! Congratulations to VCU for having compassionate and caring employees. And my mother is doing very well!
