John is a Registered Nurse in the Anticoagulation Clinic at Bassett Healthcare. He has long displayed patient compassion and developed long term patient interactions such that the patients in our clinic regularly ask for John by name and have learned to come to him with routine health questions, or as the first point of contact for non-anticoagulation related needs. He is always attentive to patients’ needs and continuously strives to maintain excellence in patient care.

John has been worthy of the DAISY Award for some time, as I could recount numerous interactions where he has gone above and beyond to deliver stellar patient care. A more recent interaction, however, prompted me to submit this nomination. One of our Anticoagulation patients came into the clinic for a routine appointment, however John immediately noticed that he was in clear distress. John quickly summoned assistance for what turned into an unfortunate medical emergency. He was present, led the responding team to learn more about this patient, and participated in delivering emergency care. Without John’s quick observation and response, there would have been a likely delay in care delivery. His work is greatly valued, and his dedication is commendable.
