John Leppla, RN

John is a great model nurse in the ICU! Recently he has been precepting nurses new to the ICU and knows just what to show them and teach them to have success in the ICU. He takes the greatest care with all his patients, from the super sick ECMO patients to the elderly comfort care patients, and communicates to them and their families in ways they can understand. He is especially good at calming patients who are agitated and confused by letting them know they are safe and being cared for. He is always vigilant of all their tubes and lines so they won't pull or snag. And when he is charge nurse I can breathe a little easier knowing he will handle it all. He even makes sure all the Lucas devices are properly kept and the batteries are well charged. He is a wiz at US IV starts and VPs and is always willing to teach others. He is calm in stressful situations, especially codes. He is meticulous with proper PPE donning and doffing, and will gently correct others if needed.
