John Perez was nominated for his efforts in accommodating a large family so they could all share in the passing of a loved one together.
A patient was on comfort care measures and had many family members in the room. As more family members arrived, there wasn't enough space in the room. Although John wasn't assigned to care for this patient, he assisted in transferring the patient to a nearby room close to a large lounge that they could all fit in. He took the time to tell the family that he would help turn and position the patient for her comfort so the family could be by her side. He also spoke with the family to offer pastoral care services. The family was able to be with their loved one during her passing by the end of the shift.
It reminded me that momentary acts of kindness, delivered with a caring heart, can have a major impact on the families and patients we interact with. John's interactions with the family and patient provided an opportunity for us to leave the family with a more positive experience.
