The ED has had a long stay autistic child with frequent needs. John decided today to come in on his day off to sit with the patient to color pictures and generally keep him entertained. John selflessly came in on a day off. He was not scheduled. This act truly embodies the qualities of a DAISY Nurse. John is the most giving nurse in the ER. Having long-stay patients is difficult for all involved, both patients and the healthcare team. This is even more challenging with a minor with autism. John has consistently gone above and beyond mandatory quality care while working with this patient, looking for activities and solutions for behaviors. He is humble and kind while clearly going above and beyond.
