My brother, youngest of six siblings, was admitted to the hospital and had surgery. After the operation, he was in a lot of pain and unable to move around. I saw how frustrating it was for him to have the surgery. He was sad and most of the time, he refused to talk to us. It was a painful experience for him.
One night, a nurse came to our room. He introduced himself as our assigned nurse and asked about my brother's condition. He was friendly, warm and encouraging. He advised my brother to take small steps and volunteered to help him. He gave my brother's pain medications and waited until he felt okay. He helped us in transferring him to and from the bathroom and changed his clothes and wet linens. After a few encounters with him, my brother started to feel better and started to smile and talk to us. Nurse John helped my brother to ambulate and he did not complain, not even once, even if my brother was more than 140 kilograms. He is caring, understanding and professional. I believe he was a key to my brother's fast recovery. He seemed to understand my brother's pain and was selfless in offering help without expecting any return.
From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of my family, I would like to thank you, John, for supporting us in this experience. You treated us like a family and eased our pain and worries. You have all the good qualities of a nurse. Thank you to you and may you be a role model for all nurses.
