In June, our ER experienced a mass casualty, with six victims that were brought in. John was the first nurse to help with the first victim, who arrived by personal vehicle. The patient, who was shot, had her daughter with her. He immediately took this patient's daughter under his wing, took her into a conference room away from the resus bay, gave her coloring books and snacks, and waited with her until the father arrived. John then went out of his way to make sure that other victims' families were comforted and settled until the patients were deemed stable enough to be seen. His compassion and empathy were one of the many reasons that this day ran so smoothly.
