We want to let everyone know what a good deed John did regarding a very unusual surgical case. As we began to prepare for a case and examine the patient, we discovered that this was a homeless person who had not had a bath and had on dirty underwear. He did not have any family with him here in the hospital or anyone to assist him in hygiene or provide a change of clothes. After the surgery was over, John gave the patient a complete bath while still on the OR table before the team took him to PACU. The next day, John bought the patient new underwear and socks and delivered these to the patient. This unbelievable act of kindness qualifies for recognition with DAISY Award; John is an extraordinary Nurse. In the fast pace of today's healthcare world, we sometimes get in such a hurry with completing care and the many tasks of each day, that we forget too often how it is the little things that really matter. John showed compassionate care and promoted the wellbeing of this patient.
Besides this one example, John is an awesome preceptor and mentor to those new to the OR, as well as many fellow coworkers. We want everyone to know how we feel about him, how proud we are of him, and relate what a good person John Robertson is. John is everything the DAISY Award embodies.
