Johnna has a great rapport with all patients. She has a wonderful gift if getting to know patients and making them feel safe. She always gives 110% to all patients but she even went above and beyond with this patient. This patient is a phase 2 COPD pulmonary rehab patient, who wears oxygen at all times and struggles with airway clearance. Johnna has a lot of pulmonary experience and recognized that this patient could truly benefit from an airway clearance vest. Until recently, Medicare only covered these types of vests for patients with a diagnosis of bronchiectasis. However, there are now some exceptions and allowances for some COPD patients. The only issue is this patient has insurance through the VA. Johnna has made it her mission to help this gentleman get one of the airway clearance vests. She has spent numerous hours reviewing the different types of vests available with the patient. Once he decided on which vest would benefit him the most, she called and explained this situation and the benefits to his doctor's nurse. Johnna then continued on by contacting the sales rep of the vests and getting them in touch with the patient and his doctor for education and the features the vests would provide. Johnna's persistence and care for her patients have not yet waivered. This is still an ongoing endeavor but Johnna's dedication to her patient's well-being has not faltered. This patient continues to thank Johnna for being such an excellent nurse, and advocate and for caring so greatly for him.
