My grandmother received extraordinary care from her nurse, Johnny. She knew from the moment she was under his care that she would be comfortable, well informed and in safe arms. As for me, the granddaughter, I wanted to first make sure whatever nurse she was assigned to was compassionate, present and, very good at their job. Upon walking into the room, all of my wishes were granted. I was immediately greeted with a pleasant and warm spirited nurse named Johnny! I received a detailed, honest, and comforting report of her status, the type of care she was being given as well as the reasons why. My grandmother stated that she just wanted someone who was "good at their job" and that Johnny was not only great at his job but he also loved his job! Johnny went above and beyond to make sure my grandmother was comfortable and warm, bringing her several blankets when she wanted to be warmer, as well as engaged in casual conversation just to learn more about each other and to help brighten her spirits. I know Johnny's efforts were genuine because Johnny didn't become a great nurse only when I, "the granddaughter", walked into the room but he was a great nurse from the moment she was under his care. My grandmother even raved about the extra mile he went to make sure she wasn't in any pain and was as comfortable as possible. Overall, I know the University of Chicago is full of great staff, but I must say there's only one Johnny and we got him! We are forever grateful and couldn't be more pleased with the care my grandmother received.
