JoLanna F. Miller, LPN
I am writing with a full and grateful heart to recognize a nurse who deserves this award. It is difficult to fully put into words the level of care, compassion, and humanity she showed me during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life, but I will do my best.
After suffering a fall at home that resulted in a broken leg, I was transported by ambulance to the emergency room. I was in pain, overwhelmed, and uncertain about what lay ahead. From the moment Jolanna became my nurse, everything changed. In the midst of a busy emergency department, she made me feel seen and not just another patient, but as a person who mattered.
I remained in the ER for an extended period while waiting for a bed upstairs, and during that time, Jolanna never once made me feel like I was a burden or just part of her workload. She spent so much of her shift by my side checking on me, easing my fears, answering every question with patience and clarity, and anticipating my needs before I even had to ask. Her presence alone brought me a sense of calm that I didn’t know I needed so badly.
Jolanna is, without question, one of the most compassionate and dedicated nurses I have ever encountered. I have been in and out of hospitals and doctors' offices throughout my life and alongside family members, and I can say with complete sincerity that I have never experienced care like hers. She combines incredible clinical skill with genuine kindness in a way that is rare and unforgettable.
What meant the most to me was how safe she made me feel. In a place where fear and uncertainty can easily take over, Jolanna created an environment of comfort and trust. I knew I was in capable hands, but more importantly, I felt cared for on a deeply human level.
When it came time for me to be admitted upstairs, Jolanna personally took me to my room and introduced me to the next nurse. That moment stayed with me because instead of feeling relieved to move forward in my care, I found myself wishing I could stay right there in the ER, simply because I didn’t want to lose the comfort and reassurance she had given me. That speaks volumes about the kind of nurse she is.
Jolanna’s compassion, patience, and willingness to go above and beyond did not just help me physically it made a lasting emotional impact that I will carry with me long after my recovery. She is a shining example of what nursing should be, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of recognition.
