Jolynn Whitley, RN

I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Jolynn, a remarkable Registered Nurse at ECU, for this distinguished award. My current health crisis, marked by severe, debilitating bouts of stomach pain, has led to numerous, often disheartening, visits to the emergency room. Sadly, I have encountered instances where the care felt cold or even dismissive. My experience tonight with Ms. Jolynn was a profound and exceptional contrast. Ms. Jolynn is truly genuine and professional, embodying the highest ideals of nursing. I believe she truly cares and is invested in my recovery. She has gone above and beyond in her care. Not only did she listen to me intently, but she also made me feel heard, validating the severity of my pain. Her dedication was evident in several ways: She performed a meticulous, head-to-toe examination. She kept me consistently informed about my care plan. She proactively communicated with the doctor multiple times to navigate pain-control options, demonstrating her intelligence and patient advocacy.

When I expressed concern about missing an upcoming orthopedic appointment, she immediately assured me she would note it and try to arrange for an orthopedic doctor to consult with me here. Crucially, when I fell tonight, she was there instantly, doing everything she could to help me. In a time when I am suffering greatly, her professionalism, intelligence, heart, and deep respect for me as a human being have been a true source of comfort. Ms. Jolynn's dedication is a testament to her character and her passion for being an RN. If only all nurses could possess her level of empathy and skill. ECU is incredibly fortunate to have an asset like Ms. Jolynn, just as I was fortunate to have her care for me. I cannot fully articulate my gratitude for this angel. She is exceptionally deserving of this award and recognition, and she is an asset not only to her team but, most importantly, to her patients.
