During the time that Jon has been a Nurse Manager, I have seen his commitment to his unit. He is extremely committed and dedicated to both the patients he and his team serve as well as being dedicated and committed to his staff. He has put in much time coaching and mentoring his staff as well as addressing their needs both educationally and professionally. After having been a patient on Jon's floor I can see where he and his team have worked to consistently improve the patient experience. He and the team, without pause, were on top of their patient purposeful rounding, bedside report and overall communication (esp. whiteboards). As a patient, I truly felt that the team knew what was going on with me and were communicating my needs. Having been involved in developing and rolling out patient experience initiatives it made me feel so very proud that Jon has led his team in such a professional manner. For 2018 Jon's team won the NRC 1st Quarterly award for highest In-Patient Satisfaction and most improved as well as winning the 4th quarter award for most improved patient satisfaction. He continuously puts in the efforts to make his unit the best it can be. These efforts are truly appreciated by all and should be recognized!

Jon is a strong nurse manager. He is confident about his leadership skills and is always willing to accept constructive advice on how to be even better. He sets the bar high in terms of his expectations and does all in his power to meet or exceed those expectations. When an issue arises on his unit, he hits it straight on with tenacity and determination. He makes sure he communicates well and that everyone is on board. When C-Diff infection became an issue on his unit, he and his nursing team implemented an action plan to reduce the spread of infection. To date since the implementation he has not had a C-Diff infection on the unit. The initiative was so impactful it is being rolled out to other units.
Jon is working hard to continue with the colon bundle to improve patient outcomes in that specific patient population. He is working with his staff to meet their needs and hear their input on the project.
Jon took on a new initiative this year with our new V3 care model re-design group. He is one of the leaders in multi-disciplinary rounds. He is able to offer suggestions on how to improve rounds based on his experiences outside of Catholic Health by assimilating those with his experiences here.
Jon takes time to know his employees individually so that he can cater his leadership style to best suit them. He is fair and honest and expects the same in return. He takes the time to sit with patients and families to see if he can be of assistance in any way. He knows the details of each patient on the unit and is always willing to go the extra mile. He embodies the culture of always. One of Jon's best characteristics is his "Work hard, play hard" mentality. He pushes his team to their fullest potential but is insistent on celebrating their wins. The patient satisfaction on his unit continues to improve each month. The incremental improvements demonstrated in his patient satisfaction scores are a true testament to Jon's leadership style and ability to implement sustaining change. His patient satisfaction numbers have been on a continual rise for a year without the ups and downs that, we typically see in satisfaction. This is an outstanding accomplishment. I am proud of the work Jon continues to do on a daily basis in his department and the hospital. His team recognizes his hard work; dedication and passion and the patients and families do too. Jon is the perfect candidate to recognize for setting lofty goals and achieving them!

Jon Delay has been a nurse leader for the entirety of my time at Mercy Hospital. In that time, he has demonstrated how leaders can have a dramatic impact on patient care and patient outcomes. He is always out on his unit interacting and caring for patients while supporting and engaging his staff. He is equitable and honest with each of his employees. Jon maintains his position of influence by setting high expectations for patient care. He enforces and demonstrates this same behavior himself. Jon will answer a call light on any floor and make sure that a patient or family gets what they need. Accountability, veracity, equality, honesty are all characteristics that Jon demonstrates every day. I believe these are common attributes seen throughout the leadership team at Mercy. However, Jon sets himself apart; he does this through becoming truly vested in the outcomes of his patients. I have had several patients come to the ICU who have previously been a patient on Jon's floor. He takes time out of his day to stop me and see if they are doing well. He will even come up to the unit and visit the patient and family to offer reassurance through discussion of the excellent care we offer in ICU. Furthermore, Jon has developed relationships with staff throughout the hospital. He asked one of my nurses if he would be willing to let Jon shadow him in Critical Care so that Jon would be a better resource for his own staff and patients in critical situations. Jon can always be found on the unit that is in trouble. No task or job is beneath him. He is a team player and does not hesitate to pitch in. I am proud to have colleagues who truly care about patients and families. I am encouraged by Jon's genuine nature and sincerity. I appreciate his humor as well as his passion and drive for success. He self imposes a sense of urgency to always improve. As John Maxwell succinctly defined good leadership, "A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way". Jon Delay is a leader that we should recognize for his compassion and commitment.

As an employee of Mercy for 18 years, I have worked with several nurse leaders and supervisors. I have had the pleasure of working with Jon since his start at Catholic Health. The passion and excitement he displays for his role and this unit have had an extremely positive effect on all of the staff. Jon encourages nurses and nurse assistants to bring forth ideas that help in the flow of care thus increasing patient satisfaction and safety. Being in this position comes with many responsibilities but he takes the time to help on the floor, never shying away from call lights, patient or staff concern. I have seen a positive shift in the work atmosphere and increased staff satisfaction since he has come to our unit. I look forward to working many more years for him and seeing all the positive changes that are still to come.

Jon joined Catholic Health approximately 2 1/2 years ago. Upon meeting Jon I must say I was a bit hesitant. I say this in all honesty that due to the fact that this person is younger than all of my children. After 35 years of nursing, I was tired of being managed by someone younger and less experienced than myself. Talk about stereotyping. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. Jon is one of the best managers we had in my long career. He is caring and sympathetic. He is a counselor to many and he holds people accountable for their actions without causing harm to their self-esteem. He is proud of his floor and proud of his staff. He is a motivator as well. His experience in nursing (clinically) is seen when he jumps into our rapid responses and codes. As an old nurse, I love when he is walking down the hall and answers call lights, assists patients to the bathroom. He assists nurses with large dressing changes if needed. He is a hands-on manager, hardworking and a true DAISY Nurse Leader.

Jon is someone who takes the time to listen and get to know his employees. If there is ever a work problem, his door is always open to talk about it. Jon goes out on the floor and helps out when he can. He talks to patients and gets to know them. He makes them as familiar with him as the rest of the staff. It's wonderful working with a person so engaging. He's firm when necessary as every manager should be. When a conflict occurs, he's involved and shutting it down in a professional manner. He isn't taking care of it or reprimanding at the desk in a disrespectful way. We're very lucky to have him on our unit and treating us as a team. No one person means more than the other to him.

Jon Delay is by far the best nursing supervisor I have ever encountered. Throughout my time on 6 east there have been many challenges and changes. All for the best. Jon is always educating, encouraging and appreciating his staff. We work better as a team because of him. The nurses and aides are proud of the floor we work on and are grateful to have his as a nurse leader. Watching him tell us our great improvement in patient satisfaction is like watching a child open their Christmas presents - rewarding! Jon is one of the most selfless people I know. If he is in his office or walking by when you need help or your patients call light is on he always helps. God forbid there is a rapid he is there in a heartbeat. Jon never expects more from us than we are capable of handling. I don't think Jon always gets the recognition he deserves. Our floor wouldn't be as great as it is without him as our fearless leader!
