Jon received an urgent page from Dr. N regarding a ventricular assist device (VAD) patient experiencing an active yellow alarm from the VAD. This signals a serious drive line issue. This patient has a challenging living and financial situation. He did not want to call 911 or come to the ER. Jon knew this patient needed help immediately. Jon drove to Elizabethtown to the patient's home and transported him to the LVHI VAD Clinic. It was determined that there was a defective controller and it was replaced.
This patient was grateful that he did not have to pay for an expensive ER visit or admission, thanks to Jon's going the extra mile.
