My 2-year old grandson was brought to Einstein Montgomery's Emergency Department via ambulance with hypoxia, stridor, retractions, and a positive Influenza B diagnosis. Jonathon Mullen took care of him for the next seven hours before he was transferred to CHOP, Jon went about his nursing interventions with confidence and skill. He advocated for W, assessed him regularly, discussed orders and concerns with W's medical team, and transitioned him smoothly to the care of the people from CHOP when they arrived. Above his competence, he demonstrated consistent compassion for a family he didn't know and a patient that appreciated none of his ministrations. There was not a moment when we didn't feel that somehow, our worry was also Jon's. There was not a moment when we didn't feel that W's comfort was just our own priority. I know Jon has boys at home, but I believe he would have behaved no differently had he anything more than cats.
